Shared spaces, and specifically train stations, can be very good arenas to observe how individuals self-regulate within a crowd, as crowds can sometimes be a beneficial source of information, but lately have been associated to high levels of risk (notably because of covid-19). How do people behave within a crowd in a closed space? Why do they avoid, or otherwise approach, other individuals? How does the social and spatial context help in deciding how to behave? My thesis aims at understanding the mechanisms underlying individuals’ decision making in shared spaces.
Keywords : social contact, crowds, self-regulation in a shared space, social influence.
